What is wrong with units that went through reconditioning?
The reconditioned machines are selected from those returned by customers. But Vitamix machines are well-known for their exceptional quality and very low number of faulty features. So, where do those machines that go through the reconditioning process come from? Why were they returned and why are there so many of them?
1. Wrong model or color orders
Sometimes people purchase the wrong color or model. When the machine arrives, the customer may change his or her mind and decide, for example, to replace the brushed stainless model for the cheaper black model and thus save some money or vice versa. Or, the customer may decide to upgrade the model for one with pre-set programs or, the opposite scenario, to downgrade for the machine without pre-program settings and thus save some money. Considering the 30-day free shipping return option, the Vitamix consumers can quite easily change their minds because it does not affect their budget. Hence, the returned units will go into the reconditioning process.
2. Orders on impulse
Vitamix sells a large volume of their product on demonstrations – Costco, Whole Foods, and others. The sales people are so persuasive that many people buy the blender on impulse. But when they bring the unit home they realize that they cannot afford it or they simply will not utilize all of the functionality of the blender and then they decide to go for a cheaper and simpler machine. These “impulse orders” will be sent back to Vitamix, and these units often were never even turned on.
3. Live demonstration units
The demonstrators use a significant number of the machines during road shows, some for demonstrating the blender operation process and some for displays. The ones that are used for display usually are never even turned on, while those that are used for demonstrations only run a small number of cycles. All of these machines need to be also sold, and they are in perfect order to be utilized. So, this category also fills the stock for reconditioning candidates.
How are these Vitamix units reconditioned?
There is a strict process every reconditioning candidate blender must go through. The machines are tested and re-inspected by trained technicians using a 17 step inspection process. This reconditioning process is applied to the base unit and blade assembly only. All of the other blender parts and accessories will be replaced by BRAND NEW items.
The inspectors will keep only the machines that have “like new” base units and blades. Any technical faults with the motor, drive system, control panel or obvious exterior issues will exclude the machine from any further refurbishing.
1. Base unit
Only base units with a “like new” appearance which was manufactured less than 5 years ago (according to the base unit date stamp) are allowed fin the reconditioning process. These base units also must be free of noticeable scratches, chips or other appearance issues to be qualified. All base unit rubber feet must be in place and without visible wear signs. The centering pad on the top of the unit base must be free of visual wear or scratches, otherwise, it will be replaced with a brand new one. The inspection of the base unit is finalized with a check for motor functionality with technical devices. It will be run 3 times.
2. Control Panel
The control panel must look new, without scrapes or any other marks. The Pulse, On/Off switches and dial knob must be clean, fully functional and without any scratches or visible marks.
To be qualified for the refurbishing process, the blade date stamp must indicate that it was manufactured less than 1 year ago. Any blade with wear signs, any indication of rust or damage or assembly rotation problem will be ruled out and replaced by a brand new blade. All blades that get through the re-inspection procedure at this stage will be high-temperature sanitized and fitted in a new container.
4. Brand New Accessories
All Vitamix refurbished/reconditioned machines include the following brand new accessories:
- Premium quality Tritan copolyester 64 oz. high profile or 48 oz. low profile (depending on model) container;
- Custom tamper suitable for the container type;
- Rubber lid and plug;
- Cookbooks (depending on model);
- Getting started DVD and user manual (if applicable).
Warranty and Customer Service
All of the reconditioned Vitamix models come with a 5-year FULL WARRANTY, compared to the typical 7 years for the majority of original models. The Full warranty covers all parts, performance, repair labor (when needed) and shipping both ways. The reconditioned model’s 5-year warranty does not mean that the life expectancy is shorter on average than for the original models. Vitamix blenders are famous for their durability and a 5-year warranty for refurbished models just reflects the lower selling price. An extra 3-year Extended Warranty is also available for Certified Refurbished machines if the extended warranty is paid at the same time as the machine is purchased.
The Vitamix customer service is the best in the industry and is always ready to resolve any issues. The refurbished machine also offers a risk-free, 30-day money back guarantee if customers are not completely satisfied with the product. This all confirms the true, high quality of the certified conditioned machines, and the negligible difference between the refurbished and the original models.
