NutriBullet is the internationally most established personal blender’s brand name. It came to the market with the idea of bullet-like upside down single-serve blender and was loyal to its concept for a number of years.
However, it recently released the first countertop blender and came out with two very similar models. The classic countertop ZNBF30400Z blender and the Combo ZNBF30500Z blender that includes countertop unit and personal attachment.
Since the NutriBullet press release claims “in terms of value, you’re getting a top-of-the-line blender the likes of Vitamix, for a fraction of the cost”, we decided to review these new machines and reveal if the blender is as good as commercial claims.

Functionality and Versatility
Smoothie: It is able to process soft and tough fruits and veggies like pineapple, carrot, dates, greens, spinach, kale, stringy celery, and others. The bender also pulverizes chia seed, flax seeds, almonds, and able to obliterates fruit skin. Overall, it makes good shakes and smooth smoothies including the green ones. However, it does not deal well with berry seeds like raspberry and blueberry seeds. It also may leave some chunks when processing hard veggies like carrot or pineapple and thus requires to blend them for longer (usually 2 minutes).
Frozen ingredients: It is able to crush ice in the smoothies but you need to add enough liquids for this task, it also comes with a tamper that is a great help for processing smoothies from frozen ingredients. Because it is not able to process ice without liquid, you will not be able to make snow cones or good quality frozen desserts but can make slushes and alcoholic beverages, medium speed is perfect for mixing them. The recipe books also include recipes of margarita and daiquiris. It comes with a tamper so it is able to process the ice properly.
Juicing: It makes smooth enough smoothies to make whole juice. However, it will not separate fiber from liquids, so you have to use a nut bag to make achieve the best result.
Hot ingredients/Soup: Although, the blender description tells that the blender can make soups it is not absolutely true. The blender is not able to handle hot ingredients. It must be loaded with food and liquids under 21 C/70 F degrees. Although you can run the main jar for longer than 1 minute the manufacture recommends to stop unit ones it starts heating the liquid.
However, it perfectly capable to puree cool ingredients for soup but you have to transfer them to the stove for heating them up. It is also not able to make bulletproof coffee.
Nut milk: The blender can process fairly good nut milk by blending nuts and water. For the best result, you are advised to strain the blended liquid through the nut bag to separate the fiber.
Nut butter: The blender power, high speed, and tamper allow to make nut butter only from the roasted nuts and with adding some oil. Though, it hardly able to achieve a good result without adding the oil. Be prepared to stop it a few times during the processing for scrapping the walls from stuck thick mixtures.
Pureeing/baby food: This machine equipped with tamper and has enough power to process quite a thick mixture. It can puree cooled cooked veggies and can make baby food.
Chopping/ mix food preps: It is able to process sauces, relishes, salad dressings, salsas, and marinades using a low speed and pulse function. With a help of tamper, it also makes pretty good quality spreads and dips including pesto and hummus. The pulse mode also allows users to chop food like onion or cabbage to prepare coleslaw.
Grinding: Although, customers sometimes use the blender for grinding coffee (only to the medium ground for the French Press) or spices the manufacture does not recommend using blender for grinding dry ingredients such as grains, cereal, or coffee, as it may damage the motor and blade.
Speed Settings and Programs
Although, the Combo ZNBF30500Z and basic ZNBF30400Z (without single serve attachment) NutriBullet blenders look similar they different control panel functionality.
The Basic (without personal blender) model control panel comes with – ON/OFF button, LOW, MED, HIGH speeds, and PULSE buttons.
The ON/OFF button turns the blender ON. LOW, MED, HIGH is activated by pressing them, the speed cycle will run until you stop it by pressing the ON/OFF button or appropriate LOW, MED, HIGH speed the second time. However, manufacturing advice to stop blender ones it starts to heat liquid with fictions. The PULSE function is activated simply by holding the button down, it will continue to run until you release it. The Pulse function is very useful for the momentary task and also allow to make chunky recipes.
The Combo model control panel comes with the ON/OFF button, EXTRACT, LOW, MID, HIGH speeds, and PULSE buttons. So, it has only one EXTRACT extra button.
ON/OFF, LOW, MID, HIGH speeds, and PULSE controls are functioning exactly the same way as for the basic model. However, when you run the single-serve attachment with cups the LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH speeds will shut off the unit automatically at the end of 1 min cycle to prevent heat and pressure build-up in the cups. If you need to blend for longer than start another one minute cycle.
The EXTRACT button starts the 1 min cycle that runs a few increasing speed cycles and designed for making smoothies. The blender will stop automatically at the end of the 1 min EXTRACT cycle for both full-size jar or the singles serve cups. It goes through.
The singles serve attachment is not interchangeable between Combo and Basic models, you cannot buy single-serve attachment and use with the Basic model base unit. You have to buy a combo or basic model without a chance to use it with the personal blender attachment.
The control panel buttons feel flimsy and not smooth to press.
Ease of Using and Cleaning
Operating: The NutriBullet ZNBF30400Z and Combo ZNBF30500Z blenders are both very easy to use.
The main 64 oz. jar comes with the blades permanently inbuilt into the container that makes. To start using it, you just have to add the ingredients to the pitcher up to the MAX lines (it has two of them for solid and liquid ingredients), fit the lid aligned to the handle and just press it into place, locate the pitcher onto the motor base and twist gently clockwise, so it locks in place (you can locate pitcher in any position BUT NOT the aligning the handle to the back). Now press the ON/OFF button and then any speed, extract or pulse control, the blender will run.
To disable the unit just turn the blender anticlockwise, remove the lid from the main jar by easily remove by pulling it up and out.
The Combo ZNBF30500Z personal blender attachment has an improved design compared to old NutriBullet 600 and 900 models, the blade assembly comes in one piece without any gasket. You have to add ingredients to the NutriBullet cup up to the MAX line, twist tightly onto the cup the blade assembly, turn the cup upside down, and place it onto the motor base, gently turning the cup clockwise to lock into the motor base. To start blending, select a speed or the EXTRACT program on the blending control panel.
To disassemble the attachment just twist it anticlockwise until the click and remove the blade assemble from the cup.
Warning: The base unit-containers connection is very sensitive, the minimum touch is enough to shut off the blender. For example, if you add extra ingredients when it runs the slight pressure tot e jar may stop the blending cycle.
Cleaning: The 64 oz. container and both Combo cups are dishwasher safe. However, for longer containers live the hand wash of self-cleaning is recommended. The 64 oz. the jar has the blades permanently inbuilt into containers, so you can use a self-cleaning procedure for it. You just have to rinse the container or use the dishwasher brush to remove obstinate ingredients if any, then add some water with the few drops of soap and run for 15-45 sec, then rinse and dry it. The best practice to wipe it dry with a cloth after cleaning and do not let it air-dry because over time the container will become cloudy.
Warning: The NutreBullet has very sharp blades, so handle them carefully to avoid laceration injury.
Base Unit and Motor Power
NutriBullet 1200 Watts comes with a powerful 1200 watts motor. Unfortunately, it does not seem durable as it has all plastic blade to motor drive coupling.
Nevertheless, it has nice features too. The base unit back and the bottom is equipped with the venting system and an internal thermal breaker that shuts off the motor when it overheats that make this machine safe to operate. The machine also comes with the suction cups on the base to reduce unit vibration and keep it stable while it is running.
The NutriBullet ZNBF30400Z basic model comes with durable BPA-free plastic 64 oz. /8cups/1800ml capacity pitcher with irremovable and blades permanently integrated into the I blade system. The pitcher equipped with a soft grip silicon rubber lining handle and very easy-pour spout. It also has clear measuring marks in ounces, cups, and in the upside side in ml. The pitcher also marked with a MAX line for the solid (64 oz. /8 cups) and liquid (56 oz. /7 cups) ingredients.
The pitcher equipped with the locking mechanism and will not start if locked incorrectly, the unit will power on but will not blend.
The pitcher equipped with the pulls off rubber lid with venting cup that seals snugly into the jar. The blender also comes with a hollow plastic stick or tamper. The cup twisted into the lid and when the cup is removed the hole is used for adding extra ingredients during the blending and for inserting tamper for helping to prevent air-pockets during the processing of thick mixtures.
Warning: unfortunately tamper is too short to reach near the bottom position of the pitcher and not very useful. Instead, you are usually required to stop the machine and mix thick mixtures manually.
The ZNBF30500Z Combo model comes with an additional 32-oz cup and 24-oz handled cup and two to-go lids (and removable blades). Cups have no measuring marking but have just the two MAX lines for solid ingredients (higher line) and for liquids (lower line).
The NutriBullet ZNBF30500Z/ZNBF30400Z 64 oz. the pitcher comes with blades permanently integrated into the container, the design typical for the high-end blenders that almost eliminate leakage problems. The stainless steel blades with cyclonic action and have to level – 4 long heavy-duty blades and 2 sharpened short blades.
The Combo ZNBF30500Z model comes with an additional removable set of blades assembly (easy-twist extractor blade) that is used with 24 oz. and 32 oz. cups as a single-serve blender attachment. The easy-twist extractor blade has 4-prongs design, made of stainless steel, and is interchangeable between both cups. The easy-twist extractor blade system is an improved version of NutriBullet 600 and 900 models as they do not have the O-ring, come in one piece that is easy to screw on, and less prone to the leakage.
Warning: The integrated and removable sets of blades are very sharp and must be handled with care. The sharp blades tend to lose sharpness over time. So, the manufacture recommends replacing the easy-twist extractor blade every 6 months for the best performance.
Color: Both models NutriBullet Combo ZNBF30500Z and NutriBullet ZNBF30400Z come in dark gray color only.
Certified Refurbished: Both models are available in renewed condition (certified refurbished) but they are sold just $3-5 cheaper than the original model.
Operation outside of USA/Canada: NutriBullet Combo ZNBF30500Z and NutriBullet ZNBF30400Z are available only in the USA and Canada equipped with 110-120 voltage system. Manufactures discourage to use the unit in the countries with a 220-240 voltage system even via the voltage transformer.
Nutribullet Combo ZNBF30500Z and NutriBullet ZNBF30400Z are noisy machines. The noise depends on a variety of parameters – the food you blend, the surface the blender sitting, the distance to the wall and etc. Approximately the unit release about 100 dB. To reduce the noise coming from the blender the user can place it on the rubber mat that usually helps to lower the sound.

NutriBullet Consumer Reviews
All NutriBullet blenders are very popular, thanks to the professional and appealing advertisement. These new blenders are also well presented and though were recently released to the market but promise to also take over the blenders market by the storm, moreover, the Combo ZNBF30500Z and Basic ZNBF30400Z models seem to be better quality than very popular older NutriBullet models.
Amazon rating – 4.7-4.9
The NutriBullet machines are very popular thus slightly higher priced than other similar quality blenders. The basic model is available for $99 and the combo is for $139 with most of the retailers.
It is a good mid-range task machine, however, it is incomparable to Vitamix as NutriBullet commercials insist. It is not able to perform many of Vitamix tasks, considerably less powerful and certainly not as well build as Vitamix just compare the Vitamix 7-10 years Full warranty to NutriBullet 1 year Limited warranty.
Overall, it is a pretty versatile and certainly most successful NutriBullet model. It is very plain and simple to use and clean. Although, it has a limited range of speeds but powerful enough for basic to medium-range tasks. It makes smooth smoothies including green ones, make dips, basic food preps tasks well and even able to make nut butter even with some efforts. With all this, it is a perfect “simple” blender.
If you decide to go for this blender just remember that you have to choose if you want the countertop blender (ZNBF30400Z) or the Combo one (ZNBF30500Z) with the single-serve attachment. Because the two models are not compatible and you cannot use the single-serve set on the Basic model.
